Fox's new series The Exorcist purports to be "based on the worldwide phenomenon", and this trailer would suggest that means the actual rite of exorcism rather than the 1973 film.
That's good news, given that William Friedkin's classic has remained untouchable amidst the ongoing wave of horror remakes and reboots.
Aside from a grab from Tubular Bells, there's very little resemblance between this new series and the movie in the first trailer. The show looks to take its cues from any recent possession film with the title The Exorcism of [insert name here].
The focus appears to be a Catholic priest (Tomas Ortega) and his connection to a Chicago family, when mum Geena Davis insists there's demons in the walls.
Could be worth a look after all.
